You don't even have to spend a cent for it. If you run Mac OS X 10.9, this is one application you should consider using. With its neat layout of buttons and configuration screens and comprehensive cleaning features, OnyX (Mavericks) for Mac proves to be an accessible system optimizer. OnyX is a tempting tool for those who are trying to become advanced users.Ĭannot be password-secured: If it's used on a shared computer and falls in the hands of inexperienced users, it may cause system problems. There are several warnings in the application, but there is no way to stop unintended changes. These tasks include the repair of permissions, execution of maintenance scripts, display of folders' contents, cleaning of cache, and the rebuilding of Spotlight and Mail indexes.ĭangerous for inexperienced users: Given the extent of system modifications it can implement, Onyx is not intended for those who lack the right know-how in changing advanced configurations. You can also specify the format of the images saved during screen captures.Ĭomprehensive cleaning: The Cleaning function provides a quick way to clean the system and user cache, font cache, browser cache, system logs, automatically saved documents, temporary and recent items, and the Trash.Īutomated system tasks: With this software you can automate maintenance, rebuilding, and cleaning tasks. You can modify the Dock, QuickTime, Safari, iTunes, Mail, Spotlight, and the Log-in, as well as disable the creation of DS_Store files. All-in-one system maintenance, tweak and cleaning tool. As the name implies, it works best with Mac OS X 10.9 or the Mavericks version.Įnables modifications on Mac OS X elements: OnyX (Mavericks) for Mac does a great job at bringing out the functions you may not know in Mac OS X. Tweaking applications for macOS come in various shapes and prices, and you are free to pick the one that meets your needs, be it focused on finding and fixing as many system errors and problems as possible or on boosting your Mac's overall performance. Can anyone offer me any advice? And my million dollar question, is FireWire a dinosaur? Should I return the brand new, just out of the box FireWire Mackie mixer for a different format? I don't need a $5,000 boat anchor.OnyX (Mavericks) for Mac is a maintenance and optimization software tool created to evaluate the integrity of startup files, but it can do more than checking and verification. I rely on my studio gear to record as a songwriter, so I’m freaking out. I can get to my hard disk drives via USB, but the FireWire port doesn’t seem to be doing anything, it can’t see my mixer and hard disk drives, it can't see just the hard disk drives when I take the mixer, well, out of the mix. When I plugged everything back in it seems nothing works. Then I disconnected everything and moved it to a new location. It was flawless and sounded/performed great. Every action is well explained and OnyX also includes a help guide for anything you're not sure. The first time you run OnyX it'll verify S.M.A.R.T status of your disk to prevent failure and analyze the structure of your volume. I connected the new mixer to my MacBook Pro via the FireWire port, continuing from the mixer’s 2nd FireWire port to Glyph Ext HD #1 and then bouncing into Glyph Ext HD #2. Onyx is completely free and will help you keep your Mac clean and in perfect running order. The old had 16 in but only a stereo return to the mixer via FireWire. Everything is exactly the same, except the new Mackie has 16 channels of FireWire in and out. OnyX is a popular freeware utility for macOS developed by French developer Jol Barrire that is compatible with both Intel processors and Apple silicon. I recently upgraded from my MacBook Pro and Mackie Onyx 1620i FireWire mixer to the long sought after Mackie Onyx 1640i FireWire mixer.

Now his face is all over the media and Skye is still wondering why he stopped calling. Skye Kaplan was always cautious with her heart until Jordy said all the right things and earned her trust. If the world only knew the real Jordy, the manipulative liar who broke Maya’s heart. It’s been two years since Maya's ex-boyfriend cheated on her, and she still can’t escape him: his sister married the crown prince of a minor European country and he captured hearts as her charming younger brother. Thank you to St Martin’s Press for an e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review. When their now famous ex-boyfriend asks them to participate in a teen reality show, two eighteen year old girls-one bent on revenge, the other open to rekindling romance-get tangled up in an unexpected twist when they fall for each other instead in Never Ever Getting Back Together by nationally and internationally-bestselling and Indie Next Pick author Sophie Gonzales. The ending was also super satisfying, and even though this did not happen in the book, I love imagining Maya, Skye, and other contestants singing along to a Taylor Swift soundtrack and letting Jordy know that they are never, ever getting back together with him. I love how even the other contestants get their own meaningful mini-subplots, so that even as we’re cheering on Maya and Skye to get together, we also get to cheer on other awesome young women to achieve their individual goals.įinally, how awesome is that title? I love the Taylor Swift reference, and the overall mood of the story fits right in with this song. Jordy also varies in how he treats each girl badly - for example, he brushes off one contestant who tries to talk to him about her worry over a friend in the hospital. Each contestant has her own reason for wanting to be on the show, which range from ambitions to be a social media influencer or meet Jordy’s royal in-laws to genuine desire for give Jordy a second chance. I also really love the friendships formed amongst all the girls in general. But these are all treated with a fairly light touch, and I love how both heroines help each other through difficult moments. The story does touch on some more serious themes, like Maya’s single-minded focus on getting revenge on Jordy, Skye’s inability to trust people due to past trauma, and Jordy’s gaslighting and overall jerky-ness. Their romance is just fun and light-hearted each heroine gets her chance at being a knight in shining armour to the other, and I love how openly they communicate with each other about their concerns. I love how they initially hate and distrust each other (because of Jordy’s manipulations, obvs), but then actually work things out by talking to each other. Sophie Gonzales’ Never Ever Getting Back Together is a sweet and feel-good YA romance. Two teenage girls compete on a dating reality show to win a second chance with their mutual ex-boyfriend, only to fall in love with each other instead. For example, Walmart had the most expensive eggs in each city - even pricier than Trader Joe’s, which was the most expensive grocer overall.įor a retailer that touts low prices, dramatically increasing the price of a highly “visible” item like eggs might seem like an odd choice, says Francesco D’Acunta, assistant professor of finance at Boston College who co-authored the paper “How Grocery Prices Influence Consumers’ Inflation Expectations.”īut at a time when consumers are braced for soaring prices by feverish media coverage, they might chalk up the higher price point to inflation and be less likely to shop around or fault the retailer. Some items, like eggs, cost more at WalmartĬertain items were surprisingly expensive at other retailers, though. Walmart and Target had comparable prices, and Aldi was the least expensive retailer. The average cost of a five-pound bag of flour and a loaf of white bread at Trader Joe’s was almost double what it was at the other three retailers. That was more than double the price at Aldi, Target, and Walmart. of boneless, skinless chicken breasts across the three Trader Joe’s locations we checked came in at almost $19. Several staples were considerably more expensive at Trader Joe’s than they were at other grocersįor example, the average price of 3 lbs. While the prices for some items like bananas, milk and cheese were comparable to those at the other retailers we checked, there were certain outliers, like bread and chicken, that made the bill at Trader Joe’s notably more expensive. Regardless of region, grocery costs were usually highest at the popular supermarket chain. Trader Joe’s is known for one-of-a-kind steals such as its “Two Buck Chuck” wine, but it ended up being the priciest retailer of the four we visited. Trader Joe’s was the most expensive across the board There were, however, wider discrepancies in the price of individual items from retailer to retailer. “High transportation costs, raw material, and input prices are more national in character,” he says, and drive costs up. citiesĬonsistency could be attributed to the fact that retailers, regardless of region, are facing similar hurdles, says Zain Akbari, an equity analyst at Morningstar. The average price of a basket of 13 kitchen staples is surprisingly consistent across the suburbs of 3 major U.S. But that was only 25 cents more than the average for our reporter in Hudson County, New Jersey, outside New York City, and only $1.08 more than the basket for our reporter in Corona, California outside Los Angeles. The average price of our grocery list was highest in Dekalb, Illinois - a suburb of Chicago - at $46.07. In big city suburbs, prices are surprisingly consistentĭespite some wide variations for specific products among grocers and zip codes, the final cost of those baskets ended up being within $1 of one another. Reporters were sent out in three separate locations to shop for a basket of 13 kitchen staples in the suburbs of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, at four national grocers: Aldi, Target, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart. Grocery prices in March of 2022 were 10% higher than they were during the same month last year. Inflation continues to drive the cost of groceries higher and higher, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In fact, when viewed from a strictly financial perspective, these calls may actually be disincentivized as the ED is contributing resources to provide the callback, thereby potentially decreasing the likelihood that patients will return to the ED for further reimbursed care. Expanding this program would come at a significant cost to the ED as, currently, these services are not supported in the fee-for-service structure. One way to reduce costs is to use an automated callback program, as Fruhan and Bills 1 did nonetheless, among patients who answered the automated call, 43.3% requested a callback from a clinician. In addition, they report that patients who requested and received a callback from a clinician often had multiple questions regarding their medical care and discharge plan, and 51.3% required an intervention, such as help in scheduling follow-up appointments or getting prescribed medications.Īlthough care transition programs, such as telephone call follow-ups, can help patients receive the care they need after discharge from the ED, these programs are costly. For instance, in subgroup analyses, Fruhan and Bills 1 report that the intervention decreased the number of ED revisits for individuals with 3 or more ED visits in the prior 180 days. A telephone call (or automated telephone call) on its own is not transformative its importance is related to which populations are reached and what interventions are provided. 3 Future research is needed to understand this variation. Like Fruhan and Bills, 1 Luciani-McGillivray et al 2 found that their program decreased the number of unplanned ED revisits, whereas other callback programs had no association with ED revisits, 3 - 5 hospitalizations, 3 - 5 or costs of care. Although prior studies of ED-directed callback programs have shown that they can improve outpatient follow-up, 2, 3 the association of these programs with ED revisit rates and hospitalization rates have been mixed. This article is an important contribution to the existing literature on how to improve post-ED care and care transitions and prevent unnecessary ED revisits and hospitalizations. The program did not demonstrate a statistically significant decrease in the number of revisits that resulted in hospital admissions overall (1.0% vs 1.4% P = .14) however, patients in the intervention group who were successfully contacted by telephone had a lower rate of hospital admission at 7 days compared with those who were not reached by telephone (0.4% vs 1.4% P = .007). Although only one-third of patients in the callback program answered the automated call, patients in the intervention program were overall more likely to visit their health care professional and report that they understood the discharge instructions and were less likely to have an unplanned ED visit at 72 hours (4.6% vs 6.2% P = .003) and 7 days (7.6% vs 10.3% P < .001) after discharge compared with control patients. Importantly, the language spoken by the patient was not an exclusion for this program in fact, one-fourth of the patients enrolled primarily spoke a language other than English. Over 10 weeks, 8110 patients were enrolled in this study, of whom 2958 (36.5%) were enrolled in the callback program. Patients who requested a follow-up telephone call were called by a physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Patients enrolled in the callback program received an automated telephone call 2 days after discharge that asked if they had questions about their discharge instructions and whether they wanted a follow-up telephone call from a clinician. Fruhan and Bills 1 report that their quality improvement callback program for patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) was associated with a decrease in 3-day and 7-day ED revisits compared with control patients who did not receive this intervention. “In any case, I finished a bunch of tunes for Teena.” Rick thought writing for her was easy: “The songs just seemed to come.” “I was amazed at how Motown could spend so much without getting at least one tune out of it,” said Rick. He also heard that she was running out of road, since more than $400,000 had been expended in studio time, with nothing considered fit enough for release. In his autobiography, Memoirs Of A Super Freak, Rick declared, “Never in my life had I heard such a range with so much passion in a white voice.” “I left the company,” recalled McNeir, “and two years later, Rick James came in and saw the same thing.” That is extraordinary pipes in a tiny frame. Other producers – Winston Monseque, Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise – also worked with Teena then, but nothing was released. “God painted her black all up and down her throat,” McNeir wrote in accompanying notes for 2011’s First Class Love: Rare Tee, a revealing compilation of her earliest Motown sides. After a stint in a group called Entourage, she signed solo to the record company and was paired with Ronnie McNeir, an artist on Motown affiliate label, Prodigal. However that compliment came about, seasoned Motown producer Hal Davis appears to have been the first to glimpse diminutive Teena’s talent. thought enough of Teena to call her “a discovery of mine… a young, white, talented singer” in his autobiography, To Be Loved. That film never made it to the big screen, but Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. Hers was a meandering path into music, by way of an extrovert personality, a tap-dancing cameo in an episode of hit American TV series, The Beverly Hillbillies, and a prospective part in a Motown Productions movie, The Innkeeper, when she was a teenager. None of this was preordained when she was born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956. The tragedy lies in the premature passing of both: Rick James on August 6, 2004, at age 56, and Teena Marie on December 26, 2010, at age 54. “There are no words to describe how much I love you,” she declared to her mentor in the liner notes, “but I will say it sho’ was fun being back in the studio with you. On Teena’s rich, story-packed 2004 release, La Dona the biggest hit of her four decades in the music business she and Rick were reunited on ‘I Got You,’ which they also wrote together. I used to listen to all the early Tamla things, like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.” Teena Marie. During all this time, I had also been helping with many other projects such as AssaultCube, Blood Frontier, Red Eclipse, and more, all spawned from Cube and Sauerbraten. Not too much later we had coop-editing and multiplayer back in, and we were ready to jettison Cube off into history to make way for Sauerbraten, what Wouter and I both saw as a much cooler replacement.įrom there, I steadily took over development of the project as Wouter moved on to work on other ideas and projects, up till now where I have been doing pretty much all the code and management for the project by myself for quite some years. There were still some hard problems like how to do collision detection or how to actually light the world that I was called in to work on, and I got my hands quite dirty with it quite soon. Because the world representation was a bit more flexible, many of the things we did in Cube wouldn’t work any more. He had been working on a prototype of this idea for a while, based off the Cube code-base. The eating of sauerbraten may have even been involved at the time he was thinking this up. This was the basic idea of the octree, that you have a tree full of cubes where you could squish the edges of them to deform them into various new shapes. Around this time, Wouter has this cute idea for map-editing using almost exclusively the scroll-wheel of the mouse and also getting around the room-over-room limitations of the Cube engine. A few days later, the ENet UDP networking library was born and Cube and other games have been running on that networking code ever since.įrom there my responsibilities just gradually grew till by about 2005, Wouter and I were equally sharing development of the code, and there were a couple other developers involved, like Mike Dysart (a.k.a. Being initiated in the dark voodoo of socket programming, and finding no other good networking libraries that were compatible with Cube’s license, I decided to just write my own UDP networking library for Cube. And once I could finally run it, horror of horrors, I discovered it was using TCP networking, which caused the game to be laggy enough to seriously detract from multiplayer and coop-editing. The fact that it had a built-in map editor with coop-editing was the main selling point then, but the fact that it was open-source also helped it gain some notoriety very quickly.Īt the time, though, it only ran on Windows, as I was a die-hard Linux user, my first involvement was to rather quickly get it ported to Linux. The details are a bit hazy even for me at this point, but the basics like cooperative map editing and Quake-y gameplay grew from there rather quickly, and it wasn’t long before we had a cozy community of Cubers hanging out in our Cube IRC channel by late 2001. So one day in 2001, Wouter shows me this tiny little engine/map editor he was working on, Cube, which itself was a successor to other little engines he had been working on before. Wouter was also, importantly, a big fan of Doom and QuakeWorld, but he was always underwhelmed by the mapping tools. Both of us were really interested in programming language design, and he being the grizzled programming languages veteran, I sent him an email one day asking about one of his designs, and we’ve been friends ever since. aardappel – and no, he’s not German, he’s Dutch) and I had known each other since about 2000. To answer that, I need to start back at the Cube project itself, and even a bit before. It does seem random as to their position. UPDATE: Later I logged into my game, went looting a nearby town, came back and the wires were back in their original position at the top of the eletric poles? That is really wierd. Screenshots of issue (#1 wires should be on red arrows not on purple, #2 wires sink into floor): Would be a great fix if the wires on an electric fence could never be connected anyhwere but at their tops. Not sure if all the nearly overlapping wires are confusing the code geometry or not. It seems to happen randomly, but usually when I leave the base and return the wiring has changed.įor the DEV's – The fence posts pass their wires through dart trap cubes alongside trips wires across a room 6 cubes wide. You have to protect the fence otherwise the zombies will destroy it, so why isn't it big like Electric. I always thought 14 blocks away from the electrical part - which is not true Picture 2 how it work - it is counted where the fence stand. Yellow marks the fence and 14 blocks in between. This leaves the wires partly submergen in the floor and useless to zap zombies!. Picture 1 shows a cross-section of what I'm building. I thought it was just something I did, but just spent 15 minutes rewiring everything in my trapped base entrance, went our to mine some iron, and when I returned, the wires on the right side fence posts had all slipped to halfway down the electric fence post? Very strange. This still leaves the fence post well above the floor the wire runs across. I have a trapped entrance to my base where two sets of electric fence posts are set 1 cube down from the floor (as in ggfirestorm's post above). The Electric Fence Post shocks players as well as the player that placed the traps regardless them being within Land Claim Block territory and Zombieswho touch the wire between two connected posts. I am also having the same issues with the electric fence post wire slipping bug as well. They DO have live bands outside on the deck, great food, and offer a really fun time.
